Ballistics Gel

A black-gloved finger poked at the ballistics gel as the blue-eyed sister watched it wiggle under the force. Eyebrows tilted to reflect her questioning expression, she turned to the preparing Father Remington cocking a rifle and peering down the sight.

“What, Rosette, you’ve never seen ballistics gel?” He joked lightly, cocking his head to Chrono to please remove Rosette from the range.

Rosette squawked as Chrono slung her over his shoulder and proceeded to head to the back of the firing range, only to stop as he set her down in a chair and sat down next to her. An arm draped around her white-clad shoulders pinned the hyper nun to her spot.

“Hush,” he chided, a fang scraping against her earlobe. “Let’s let him play.”

She shuddered, the clapping of her mouth finished with a click.

Ewan grinned like a little boy in a toy store before lifting the weapon to his shoulder and firing off a few rounds.

The excitement was coming from the guardian in almost visible waves, at least Chrono could see them, fortunately Rosette could not.

Otherwise, she’d see the red, almost heart-filled waves every time Remington looked at her.

One good kick and he’d be gone.

Unfortunately, having one of the heavenly host as part of your Balancer’s life when you’re a demon, poses quite a few problems.

He had to literally carry Rosette out of the firing range once she got the rifle in her grasp. The picture was hilarious, he had Rosette slung over his shoulder and the rifle against the other. A grin settled on his face as he made his way across the yard.

The nuns out that morning could only laugh at the sight that they encountered there in the courtyard.

They ran into Sister Kate, as mad as a hornet and frigid as usual.

You could tell that she hadn’t given up her sisterly vows.

She’d murder Rosette if she knew just how much of a “deal” was between them.

But today was different as she only “hmphed” at them and walked away.
