It started off as something harmless. She’d climb into bed with the rest of them, slide into a warm crevice between Edward and Roy, wait for them to snuggle up next to her, one may kiss her or caress her in some manner, and then everyone would fall asleep.

If the ceiling had eyes, they’d see two eyes staring back at them.

She tried to clear her mind, tried to relax and enjoy the warmth of bodies around her, but to no real avail, something always just…irritated her or just plain kept her awake.

Thankful for military training, she was able to extract herself out of the huddle and crawl toward the foot of the bed.

The floor was cold.

She was just happy that she could still feel it, let it shock her back into reality as her mind filled in the blanks where her eyes failed to see her surroundings.

So she would walk around the house.

In the dark.

Except tonight, tonight it was storming and the thunder was keeping her awake and uneasy because this was the first storm and she wasn’t exactly keen on how the house, no matter how much alchemy went into it, would actually stand the wind and stress.

The more she thought about it, one hand stretched out in front of her to ward of her running into anything and essentially waking one of her men up, the more that excuse didn’t exactly apply.

Something was just wrong.

Blame woman’s intuition, but she could feel the humming in the air, the warning whispers of her mind as she continued her late night prowl.

A creak snapped her out of her musing as she stopped, stark still in the pitch-black hallway. Lightning illuminated her in her scanty nightdress and the area in a bright violet-white as a black figure was seen to be standing in her path.

They weren’t moving, but as her mind assimilated the stance that she caught mere glimpses of, she knew that they were blocking the doorway.

The floorboards creaked as the storm grew worse, the flashes outside being closely followed by the thunder.

They were coming closer.
